Australian Palliative Care Conference 2017

Dr Alex Jadad

Dr Jadad is a physician, educator, researcher, innovator, entrepreneur and public advocate, whose mission is to enable all people to live full, healthy and happy lives, in love, until their last breath. He has been called a “human internet”, as his work seeks to identify and connect the best minds, knowledge and tools in the world to improve our capacity as a species to imagine, invent and promote better approaches to living, healing, working, playing, loving and learning as part of a flourishing planet.

In 2008, inspired by a personal experience as a patient with a potential diagnosis of cancer, Dr Jadad wondered if it would be possible to be ill and healthy at the same time. This apparent paradox led to a three-year-long global conversation supported by the British Medical Journal. This effort yielded a re-conceptualization of the meaning of ‘health’, published in 2011, as the capacity to adapt and self-manage in the face of physical, mental and social challenges, a shift away from a disease-focused approach, which is motivating deep reflection and changes in health systems worldwide.

Dr Jadad is the founder of the Center for Global eHealth Innovation and Director & Professor at the Institute for Global Health Equity and Innovation, University of Toronto, Canada.

We are delighted to welcome Dr Jadad as our International Keynote Speaker to the APCC17 program in September.
